I've heard a rattling noise coming from underneath the Expedition for a while now, but this past weekend it became a little more pronounced.
Upon further inspection I think I may have found the problem...

It's trippy seeing how much that's like the Falcon/Mustang setup:
Ford, changing things from the 60s since never because fuck you, that's why.

Good suggestion! Definitely beats my original plan of not making any turns.

I figure it'd just go something like this:

In their defense, it still turns about as well as I'd expect it to turn. So even when it's not working it's working?!

Well, Ford aren't really in the habit of changing things in general, other than when they have a Zany Scheme that requires it. So, for example, you had the E-series van whose underpinnings dated back to the 70s and whose external styling school of design was directly traceable to the early 60s Falcon Econoline because there was never any reason to mess with it. Take also the twin-I-beam from suspension: made it in the 50s, worked fine, didnt' change it for many decades. How long a design idea lasts at Ford seems to have something to do with how goofy it is - very goofy ideas have the potential to last infinity years - unless something even goofier comes along as part of a fresh slate redesign. On your Expedition, they've gone from a front suspension that dated back to the 50s to an evolution of one from the 60s. PROGRESS.

I'm glad my Expedition is at the bleeding-edge of Ford innovation!

Yep. First preventative thing I did when I picked up my used Subaru was change out the crappy plastic ball and socket rear links for the Moog end-links. They are much beefier and should be the norm on those cars.

I once had a F-250 with a straight-6 gas motor and a two-speed automatic (I think a 1972, it was a while ago!) that required heating a front end member red hot and bending it to realign the front end. Technology from 1897?!?
My grandfather was a hoist engineer in a coal mine, steam engines to run the electrical generators. He shoed mules in WW I. He could have realigned this truck...
